Kristi has been with us for about a year and we can honestly say she is one of our most encouraging members. No matter what class time she comes to, 5:00 AM or 5:30 PM, she is always cheering on her fellow classmates before, during, and after her class! She is a reminder to us and everyone else what CrossFit is all about. We are all here to work hard and become more healthy, and it is suppose to be fun! We should all be more like Kristi and enjoy coming to the gym and exercising with our friends! Please take the time to read this!

What is your sport and fitness background?
I have always been more of a runner before CrossFit. I ran the Fred Hartman Bridge to train for my first half marathon in January 2014 and was a Pilates class regular. I am finishing my Bachelor of Science in Fitness and Human Performance this May, which will allow me to further help others reach their fitness goals. God willing, I will be able to work with youth in helping them form healthy habits for their future. I truly believe that we are a product of what we wish to see. We can teach our children the importance of an active lifestyle by not only what we say but by what they see us do.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD…what was it, and how did it feel?
I was exposed to CrossFit for a whole year by word of mouth from my coworker Roxanne! I was terrified and didn’t think I would ever be able to lift that much weight. She was always encouraging me to go and would always say that I just needed to try it at least once. Well, I finally did and I loved it! It was almost like a coming to Jesus meeting or getting sparked for the first time, there is just no going back once you try CrossFit! I was introduced to burpees for my first WOD and I thought I was going to hurl at first, but then I felt like Superwoman because I finished. The WOD consisted of 45 Thrusters 95/65 and 45 Burpees for time.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? (before/after)
I am a huge advocate for nutrition and take my supplements regularly but by adding CrossFit to my regimen, it has taken my body and performance to the next level. I can see an increase in definition and my strength. I am so excited to see what adding extra CrossFit days to my week will do for me after I finish school and have even more time to dedicate to sharpening my skills.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
CrossFit is like a family. I’ve met some awesome people and made some incredible friends that I consider family. Everyone is always encouraging and even helpful in assisting each other with putting up equipment after killer workouts. When our CrossFit sister Vanessa passed last year in July, it really opened my eyes to how precious and beautiful our CrossFit Family is. There’s an unexplainable bond at Bayway CrossFit.
Share with us any favorite CrossFit/BayWay CrossFit moments?
There are tons of moments, but a few that stick out are the PR Challenge last year and our Christmas WOD was fun. The funniest moment was when I missed the box during a box jump and ate it! THAT was funny, it was in slow motion too!
Any advice for people just getting started?
Never give up! Do not ever give up and do not ever quit! There will be days that you do not want to leave your house or feel overwhelmed with life. Life happens all the time, but there’s just nothing in comparison to when you get through a WOD.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I like being outside on sunny days, love the beach, movies and hanging out with my daughter and family. I also love to plan parties and helping people with my Advocare business.
