We are back on our postings! Here is our athlete spotlight for June! Gabe has been with us for a little over a year and has seen some excellent results. He physically has changed, but the most significant change has come with his fitness. He has worked his way to be one of the fittest guys in the gym and continues to impress us with how easy he can learn a new movement. Keep it up Gabe, and we are glad to have you!

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD…what was it, and how did it feel?
So I first Heard about CrossFit back in 2014 from Mr. Jose Flores. For years I kept telling him I was going to start working out with him again but never committed. Fast forward a couple of years, and At that time I knew he stopped going to a traditional gym but didn’t quite remember what he was doing and what I was getting myself into. My first WOD, (I had to look this up) was a 15-minute AMRAP of 30 calories on the Row, 60 air squats, and nine power cleans at a whopping 65lbs (I scaled of course). Honestly, don’t remember how it felt pain wise but must have been pretty terrible because I only did two rounds and 20 reps.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit? (before/after)
I’m a lot stronger than what I use to be both physically and mentally; I now can successfully carry all the groceries to the house In one trip.😃 But besides that I do feel more energetic, I’ve made changes to my diet which helped significantly with my health and body physique. Got rid of the Dad Bod.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
I’m more cautious of what I put inside my body now. Before I didn’t care about the kinds of food I ate, as long has it tasted good I was going to eat it.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit/BayWay CrossFit moments?
I’ve got plenty of these, but if I had to go with one favorite moment at BayWay CrossFit this year’s Open would take the cake. The Energy, The camaraderie and the willingness to help and push each other beyond our limits! There’s nothing else like it.
Any advice for people just getting started?
My Best Advice for someone just getting started is to Stay Consistent. CONSISTENCY is the Key. Even on the days you’re super tired and Don’t feel like going to the box to get a workout in. JUST DO IT. You’re Biggest Competition is going to be yourself. Keep On Pushin’, I Promise you won’t regret it!
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I’m a real family oriented guy, love spending time with the family. Like to fish, play softball, volleyball anything that involves getting together and having a good time.
